WHAT IS TRIGGER FINGER?
Trigger finger is a medical condition in whicb there is a feeling of catching and locking in your thumb. It is a painful condition. The finger usually gets stuck in bent position. 
Trigger finger is caused due to prolonged irritation of the sheath of the tendon and can lead to scarring, thickening of the tendon and the formation of bumps in the tendon that restricts its motion even more.
Females are six times more prone than men to develop trigger finger. It usually affects people in their late adulthood. Diabetic patients are have more chances of developing the disease.
Trigger finger can occur along with other conditions like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, DeQuervain's disease, hypothyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, renal disease, amyloidosis.
HOW TO TREAT IT?
After getting your problem diagnosed there can be multiple treatment options depending on the severity of the condition.
1. Medication: NSAIDs like ibuprofen, naproxen etc can be used to treat pain caused due to the condition but these medicines have no effect on the swelling.
2. Exercises: Mild stretching exercises can be done for maintaining the mobility of the finger.
3. Rest: Give proper rest to your finger for giving it adequate time to heal. Avoid movements like prolonged grasping, gripping and holding vibrating machines.
4. Splints: Night splints can be used to keep the finger in an extended position to give rest to the affected tendon.
5. Injection: Corticosteroid injections can be used to reduce pain and the frequency of triggering.
Conservative treatment can sometimes become irritating due to chronic nature of the disease.
Surgical options can mainly be three including:
1. Open surgery
2. Endoscopic surgery
3. Percutaneous release
